ONLINE/VIRTUAL/DISTANCE LEARNING

Online/Virtual/Distance Learning refers to training that you can access from anywhere on your preferred device (laptop, tablet, personal computer) - Can be either synchronous or asynchronous.

DEFINITIONS:

Asynchronous - Self-directed virtual training that you can take at any time.

Blended - Training that incorporates a combination of classroom instruction (either virtual or in-person) with asynchronous training content.

Synchronous - Virtual training that requires participation on specified dates and at designated times.

Virtual Classroom - Synchronous instructor-led training.


WHEN CONSIDERING ONLINE/VIRTUAL LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES

BE SURE to click on the Underlined Learning Title and read the learning overview! The learning overview may contain links to course access and credit instructions, pre-training reading assignments, handouts, or other important course information.

There are currently four types of online/distance learning opportunities available to you through E-Track:

  1. External Web Based (indicated in the learning code by "DL1") - Completely asynchronous and accessed OUTSIDE of E-Track:
    • YOU MUST click on the Underlined Learning Title and click on CLICK HERE for printable instructions on how to access and receive credit for the course.

CAREFULLY FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS TO ENSURE YOU RECEIVE THE CORRECT CREDIT FOR THE COURSE.

  1. Online TEDS (indicated in the learning code by "DL2") - Completely asynchronous/self-directed online training that is launched through E-Track:
    • Click on the Underlined Learning Title to see the Learning Overview. Read the course description, being careful to look for links to handouts or other resources.
    • To enroll, from the left-side menu click on Enroll or View available dates for this Learning; then click on the [Enroll] button. 
      • [Yes] - Launches the course immediately.
      • [No] - Places the learning on your to-do list to take later. (When you're ready to take the course, return to your to-do list and click on the Actions arrow  to launch the course.)
    • After completing the course, click on Continue to take the knowledge quiz. Upon successful completion of the knowledge quiz, you will receive training credit and the course will be moved from your to-do list to your training history.

HELPFUL HINT: If nothing happens when you click on the Continue link, try using a different web browser. For instance, if you're currently using Chrome, change to Internet Explorer and try again.

  1. Web Conferencing (indicated in the learning code by "DL3") - Synchronous/Instructor-led online training that is held on specific dates and at specific times.
    • Click on the Underlined Learning Title to see the Learning Overview. Read the course description, being careful to look for links to course materials and instructions about connectivity.
    • To enroll, from the left-side menu, first click on Enroll or View available dates for this Learning; then to the left of the desired session, click on the [ENROLL] button.
    • Generally, connectivity information will be provided via email a few days prior to the session start date.

  1. Blended Learning (indicated in the learning code by "DL4") - Training that incorporates a combination of classroom instruction (either virtual or in-person) with asynchronous training content.
    • Click on the Underlined Learning Title to see the Learning Overview. Read the course description, being careful to look for links to course materials and instructions about connectivity.
    • To enroll, from the left-side menu, first click on Enroll or View available dates for this Learning; then to the left of the desired session, click on the [ENROLL] button.
    • Generally, connectivity information will be provided via email a few days prior to the session start date.

TO SEARCH FOR ALL AVAILABLE ONLINE/VIRTUAL LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES SPECIFIC TO YOUR ROLE OR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Click on the [Advanced Search] button
  • Type DL into the Search Training field
  • Click on the Local Code radio button to select
  • To the right of the Classification field, click on the magnifying glass icon
  • Click on the appropriate blue underlined classification to select: Caseworker, Facilitator, Foster Caregivers/Adoptive Parents, or Supervisors/Managers)
  • Click on the [Search] button

Any learning opportunity that is currently available will be designated by a green [Sessions] button.
